Reporting to:   Director, Enforcement

Location:   Home Office,  Greater Toronto Area (West)

Responsibilities:

  • Gather relevant evidence and data in accordance with the prescribed rules of evidence and the law to logically analyze it for its potential use
  • Obtain search warrants and execute any required searches relative to the location of evidence with a view to locating and identifying relevant physical evidence
  • Conduct interviews of witnesses to obtain all relevant information to the incident being investigated
  • Articulate details and  impact of an investigation in whole or in part
  • Prepare comprehensive written reports of investigations
  • Provide assistance to legal counsel in the preparation of cases where charges are laid
  • Appear as a witness and give evidence during trials, or any form of hearings (i.e. license appeal tribunal)
  • Attend/assist/present when required in Tarion outreach programs

Qualifications:

  • Minimum College graduate with additional investigation courses completed
  • Minimum 5 years policing or similar investigation experience
  • Above average computer skills in Microsoft Office and Internet environments
  • Detailed knowledge of corporate mandates and business procedures
  • Must be familiar with legal terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
  • Self motivated with excellent self management skills (time management and organizational skills)
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent negotiating and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of relevant constitutional laws, Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act, Municipal Freedom of Information Act, Canada Evidence Act and an understanding of the Ontario Building Code Act is preferred
  • Valid Class ‘G’ drivers license and reliable transportation is essential
  • Access to High Speed Internet connection at home is essential
