​An Update on the Government's Announcement Regarding Tarion

On March 28, 2017, the Minister of Government and Consumer Services announced that the Ontario government will be making changes to the province's new home warranty program.

What does this mean for you as a new home owner?

It is business as usual.  There is no immediate impact to the province's new home warranty or your warranty rights.  As we have done for more than 40 years, Tarion is here to provide you with information, resources and answers to help resolve warranty issues with your new home.

What does this mean for you as a builder or vendor?

Similarly, It is business as usual.  There is no immediate impact to your warranty obligations. Tarion is here to provide you with information, resources and answers to help resolve warranty issues between you and your homeowners.  Until the announced changes are implemented our regulatory responsibilities will not change, including:

  • Licensing new home builders and vendors;
  • Resolving warranty claims according to the existing warranty rules and process; and,
  • Investigating and prosecuting illegal building practices.
