Carol joined Tarion’s Board in 2023 and her current term expires in 2026. She is currently a member of the Audit & Risk and Investment Committees.
Carol is the past-President of Wawanesa’s Canadian Property & Casualty Operations and Executive Vice President of Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. As President, Carol was accountable for the profitable performance of $3.3B in underwriting premium, meeting the needs of members in communities across Canada. Joining Wawanesa in the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer in 2016, Carol has enjoyed a multi-decade career that included President and COO of Canadian Northern Shield Insurance prior to its sale to RSA; President of CUMIS General Insurance, prior to its sale to the Co-operators; Vice President TD Bank, responsible for insurance Claim Services; as well as the Vice President of Personal Insurance and Vice President of Claims at RSA Canada.
An active Board member, Carol is currently serving as a Director on the Board of Southlake Health in Newmarket, Ontario, as well as an Independent Director on the Board of Aviva Canada. Prior to her retirement she Chaired the Board of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction; was a member of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Bureau of Canada; a founding Board member of Équite; as well as a Director of Western Financial Group, a subsidiary of Wawanesa Mutual. Carol has enjoyed serving on a number of other corporate and not-for-profit boards in her career.
Carol was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award from Insurance Business Canada as well as the Lew Dunn award from the Women Insurance Cancer Crusade in 2023. In 2022 she received the National Established Leader from the Insurance Institute of Canada. Named to the Insurance Business Global 100 in 2021, she was also on Insurance Business Canada’s Elite Women for 2020. A Fellow of Distinction was awarded to her by the Insurance Institute of Ontario, as well as the Centennial Award by the Insurance Institute of Canada. A graduate from Rotman School of Management she holds the Institute of Corporate Directors designation, a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional and a Canadian Risk Management designation. She attended Queen's University Executive Development Program and is a graduate in Chemical Engineering Technology from Seneca Polytechnic in Toronto.
